Build Confidence for Your Career in Emergency Veterinary Medicine

A career in veterinary emergency medicine starts with a strong foundation and people invested in your growth. Dogs and Cats Emergency & Specialty (DCES) in Bowie, Maryland, serves as the six-month training site for participating Ethos ER Immerse (ERi) opportunities at Virginia Veterinary Centers in Fredericksburg and Valley Veterinary Emergency & Referral Center in Winchester. Through guided clinical experience, structured learning, and dedicated mentorship, you’ll develop skills that support a sustainable and rewarding career as an emergency veterinarian. The upcoming training program begins in June or July 2027.

Learn with Support at DCES

ER Immerse combines hands-on patient care with simulation-based learning and a curriculum focused on the core competencies of emergency practice. Alongside clinical knowledge and technical skills, the program emphasizes client communication, teamwork, professional development, and life/work integration.

During your six months at DCES, your training includes:

  • Dedicated mentorship: Work alongside a dedicated mentor on every training shift.

  • Specialty rotations: Gain experience through rotations with specialty services.

  • Structured learning: Complete asynchronous coursework through VetBloom and participate in weekly live virtual didactic rounds.

  • Continuing education: Learn from specialists and experienced emergency veterinarians during regular live education events.
